As we transition into the summer our skin can change drastically. Not to mention the harsh UVA and UVB rays that are full force. I’m not talking about just any skin though, I’m referring to your face. We all know it is vital to take care of your body’s skin during the summer but your face is just as important. You only have one skin, take care of it! Here is what top dermatologists are saying about how to take care of your skin during the spring and summer. I present to you your Spring and Summer Skin Care Regimen!

Spring and Summer Skin Care Regimen
Sunscreen or SPF
Experts recommend you use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher on all exposed skin. That includes your arms, legs, and face. When doing your skincare regime make sure SPF is the last step. Dermatologists recommend reapplication every couple of hours.
Adopt a Dual Moisturizer
To drop a step in your skincare regime, consider switching to a combination of moisturizer and sunscreen during the summer. Dermatologists also state, that thicker moisturizers can lead to clogged pores, inflammation, and acne. If you have acne-prone or oily skin like me, drop one skin-care step with a combination moisturizer/SPF that can help keep skin clear.
Lighten your skincare routine
Just like your wardrobe, your skincare should be more lightweight. One way to do this is to swap out a heavier cleanser such as think cream or oil cleanser, in favor of a gentle, foaming option.
Invest in a Vitamin C Serum
The key product to add to your spring and summer regime is Vitamin C. It helps prevent hyperpigmentation, improves the appearance of fine lines, and can help with collagen production.
Exfoliate
As we transition into summer, dropping the notion of exfoliating daily is horrible, but in the summertime, is the time to slough away on the exfoliate. Now don’t go with a daily dose of all your favorite acids. Try slowly increasing the number of days you exfoliate per week in the summer.
Don’t stop moisturizing completely
It is important, that even if your skin already feels oily, always follow cleansing with a moisturizer. This is where that combination moisturizer/SPF comes in also. You need a lightweight texture, that will help keep that outer layer nourished without feeling too heavy on your skin.
Shorten your shower time
Many of us tend to shower multiple times a day in the summer. Such as after workouts, beach days, and a full day of plain old summer sweat. It’s important to keep showers short, around four to five minutes. Why you may ask is because over-showering, or showering in water that is too hot, can lead to over-drying skin, leading to inflammation and even summertime eczema. Get in do your thing and get out. This will also cut down the water bill too!
Use makeup that is non-comedogenic
Non-comedogenic is a fancy word for a product formulated without pore-clogging ingredients. Take a look through your makeup product to make sure you use products that are not going to clog up your skin. Maybe switch to powder sunscreen, an oil-free primer, or a lightweight foundation for your spring and summer regimen.
Stay in the shade as much as possible
Lastly, be mindful of the exposure to direct sunlight. Try to keep to little of your body exposed to direct sunlight as possible. Examples to help with this would be wearing sun-protective clothing, wide-brim hats, sunglasses, sitting underneath an umbrella, wearing an extra-large hat, or avoiding the midday sun.
Be cautious this summer when it comes to your skincare. Layer on the sunscreen and lay off the harsh makeup. Your skin and pores will thank you! Here are a couple of products to get you started in the right direction this spring and summer.
