Yard Sale Book Haul

It’s yard sale season! June is the perfect time for hosting a yard sale. Around here there are many neighborhood-wide yard sales on any given Saturday. I typically only stop at yard sales that are in a good neighborhood. I would suggest you do the same because that’s where the good stuff is going to be and for really cheap. It just so happens that I stumbled upon one a couple of weeks ago and found a jackpot of books! These books were in great condition for no more than $2, even a couple of hardcovers! I got multiple genres and new authors too. Let’s see what books I purchased, the Yard Sale Book Haul!

Yard Sale Book Haul: Nonfiction – Personal Development

You are a Badass – How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero

The Goodreads description is as follows: “Author, Jen Sincero, serves up 27 bite-sized chapters full of hilariously inspiring stories, sage advice, easy exercises, and the occasional swear word. You Are a Badass will help you: Identify and change the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviors that stop you from getting what you want, blast past your fears so you can take big exciting risks, figure out how to make some damn money already, and learn to love yourself and others, set big goals and reach them – it will basically show you how to create a life you totally love, and how to create it now. By the end of You Are a Badass, you’ll understand why you are how you are, how to love what you can’t change, how to change what you don’t love, and how to use The Force to kick some serious ass.” This book has been on my TBR list since 2020 so you can imagine the excitement when I found it for only $1! I’m looking forward to reading this book this summer. I think it’s the perfect time to read it since I’m freshly out of college with my master’s degree, ready to set my career and life up for my ultimate goals.

The Goodreads description states: “In this book, Romi offers you the same direct, no-BS coaching she’s given to tens of thousands to help you acquire the skills to build this sucker and teach your team to do the same. And, equally important, she’ll work on your mindset so you stop overcomplicating it all and stop letting the negative voices in your head win.

Yard Sale Book Haul: Fiction – Romance

November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Colleen Hoover has been all over TikTok, Instagram, and pretty much every other social media network. I recently read her viral book It Ends with Us and loved it! So why not give one of her other novels a shot. The Goodreads site describes it as: “Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist. An unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse.”

Yard Sale Book Haul: Fiction – Mystery/Thriller

Seven Dirty Secrets by Natalie D. Richards

The book description really caught my eye on this book. “I know seven secrets: One caused the fall. One did nothing. One saw it all. One didn’t care. One used their head. One played the hero. One was left for dead. On her eighteenth birthday, Cleo receives a mysterious invitation to a scavenger hunt. She’s sure her best friend Hope or her brother Connor is behind it, but no one confesses. And as Cleo and Hope embark on the hunt, the seemingly random locations and clues begin to feel familiar. In fact, all of the clues seem to be about Cleo’s dead boyfriend, Cyrus, who drowned on a group rafting trip exactly a year ago. A bracelet she bought him. A song he loved. A photo of the rafting group, taken just before Cyrus drowned. And then the phone calls start, Cyrus’s voice taunting Cleo with a cryptic question: You ready? As the clock on the scavenger hunt ticks down, it becomes clear that someone knows what really happened to Cyrus. And that person will stop at nothing to make sure Cleo and her friends pay. Can they solve the hunt before someone else winds up dead?” Doesn’t this sound so interesting? I’m a sucker for a mystery and thriller of any type! I had to pick it up it was only $1!

Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty

I have been seeing the previews on Hulu for this new TV Series but I did not know it was based on a book. The description really pulled me in. “Could ten days at a health resort really change you forever? These nine perfect strangers are about to find out… Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, and some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be. Frances Welty, the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House. Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer—or should she run while she still can? It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question. Combining all of the hallmarks that have made Liane Moriarty’s writing a go-to for anyone looking for wickedly smart, page-turning fiction that will make you laugh and gasp.” I of course try to always read the book before watching the movie or TV show adaptions. I have also heard so many good things about this particular author so for only a $1 why not try it out.

Autopsy by Patricia Cornwell

Now I think this is the book I’m most excited about reading. The cover photo caught my eye and so did the description of the storyline. “Forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta has returned to Virginia as the chief medical examiner. Finding herself the new girl in town once again after being away for many years, she’s inherited an overbearing secretary and a legacy of neglect and possible corruption. She and her husband Benton Wesley, now a forensic psychologist with the U.S. Secret Service, have relocated to Old Town Alexandria where she’s headquartered five miles from the Pentagon in a post-pandemic world that’s been torn by civil and political unrest. Just weeks on the job, she’s called to a scene by railroad tracks where a woman’s body has been shockingly displayed, her throat cut down to the spine, and as Scarpetta begins to follow the trail, it leads unnervingly close to her own historic neighborhood. At the same time, a catastrophe occurs in a top-secret private laboratory in outer space, and at least two scientists aboard are found dead. Appointed to the highly classified Doomsday Commission that specializes in sensitive national security cases, Scarpetta is summoned to the White House Situation Room and tasked with finding out what happened. But even as she works the first crime scene in space remotely, an apparent serial killer strikes again. And this time, Scarpetta could be in greater danger than ever before.” What I didn’t know is this is the latest book in a 25-book series. The best part though is each book in the series can be a stand-alone. No reading in order to understand the plot or characters. I can’t wait to get this book started and even maybe read the other 24 books in the series too!
